Ten novels representing a variety of styles, subjects, and formal approaches will be read. Titles included, Madame Bovary, Anna Karenina, House of Mirth, Mrs. Dalloway, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The Bell Jar, The Hours, A Long Way Down, The Red Panda, and The Virgin Suicides. Missional Church vs. Emerging Church, with Rev. Dr. Wayne Darbonne - Head of Staff, Littleton Presbyterian Church, CO: Compared the philosophy, purpose, history, and key players of both Missional and Emergent movements in the North American Christian Church. Attended a scholarly conference at Luther Seminary in St. Paul MN, wherein papers regarding the Missional movement were delivered and discussed. Attended the yearly, 3-day gathering of the Emergent church in Marietta, NM. Wrote a paper discussing my experiences, literature on the subject, and my conclusion as to which model was more likely to usher the church into the new millennium. Missional Leadership: Foundational Trinitarian Theology, with Dr. William Enns - Interim Head of Staff for PC(USA), currently serving Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, NC: A study of the Theology supporting the Trinitarian nature of Missional Leadership. The essential argument for this course is that all leadership is relational by nature, deriving its very essence from the essence of God. Examination of Biblical and theological texts which support a relational understanding of leadership. Identification of the major contributors to this discussion. Understanding of the implications for leadership styles and leadership development that release followers into destiny. Cross Cultural Leadership, with Peter Block - author, speaker, and OD consultant: Reading list included Deschooling Society, The Ugly American, and Community: A Structure of Belonging. Areas for special investigation will include an historical overview of cross cultural leadership, an analysis of why some efforts succeed over many years and others fail. The concept of crossing culture by building community, and how cross cultural leadership is interpreted or reinterpreted within the context of a post-modern/post-colonial era will be explored. Studies began in the direction of "Missional Leadership"—in the context of Christianity. |
